Seven
By Lin · NL
Seven is a short literary piece about the limits of measuring human pain. It follows the familiar medical question: “On a scale from zero to ten, how much pain are you in?” For someone living with endometriosis and recurring severe pain, that question becomes increasingly difficult to answer. Pain changes your reference point. What once felt unbearable can eventually become something you learn to work, drive, laugh and function through. The piece explores the gap between what can be recorded and what can actually be experienced. A computer can store the number seven. A medical file can document it. But neither contains the sleepless night, the cancelled plans, the humour, the fear, the adaptation or the private calculations behind that number. At its core, Seven is about what gets lost when a complex human experience is reduced to data.
