Unrecorded Rituals: Plate I: Ritual
By Ariel Taubenfeld · IL
Unrecorded Rituals is a series of archival photographs of rituals that never happened. Here, followers gather around a skull-faced stone colossus surrounded by veiled women, and nobody seems afraid. It is an image about how easily we arrange ourselves around belief, power and old monuments even when we know nothing about who staged them, and turn them into a photo opportunity. It sits between documentary style images and a quiet joke about how much we trust an old-looking photograph.
