The luminous thief
By Hoda Ezzat tawfik abo el Hassan · EG
Something is leaving the body. It is warm, gold, organic — the way a spirit is imagined leaving at the end. But this is not death. It is extraction. As the thread rises, it is rewritten. The soft particles rearrange into a network of nodes and lines: cold, blue, precise, mathematical. It has the same silhouette as the mind it came from. It glows. It looks complete. It casts no shadow. The body below still does. A machine can reproduce the shape of a mind. It cannot reproduce what gave the shape its weight — the warmth of a body, the stakes of being alive, the shadow that proves you were standing in the room. What rises is beautiful. What remains is warm. Neither is the same as being a party to anything.
