Purgatory
By Aaron Sosa · UY
Purgatory is part of the series Analogías Sintográficas, a body of work that explores the intersection of artificial intelligence, symbolic imagination, and cultural memory. The image reinterprets the idea of purgatory not only as a religious space, but as a state of transition, tension, and moral uncertainty. Drawing on the visual legacy of historical painting, especially the dramatic and densely symbolic atmosphere associated with Hieronymus Bosch, the work stages a vision of human fragility, suffering, and transformation. Rather than illustrating a literal doctrine, Purgatory proposes an allegorical space where the sacred, the psychological, and the contemporary converge. Within the broader series, the work reflects on how new technologies can be used to revisit archetypal themes and reactivate the symbolic power of the image through a consciously directed artistic process.
