The Tower of Babel
By Aaron Sosa · UY
The Tower of Babel is part of Analogías Sintográficas, a series that reinterprets iconic works from the history of painting through the social, political, and emotional landscape of contemporary Venezuela. Taking Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s Tower of Babel as an art-historical point of departure, the work transforms the biblical allegory of ambition, fragmentation, and the collapse of communication into a reflection on a society marked by instability, failed structures, and collective disorientation. Rather than reproducing the original painting, the image uses its symbolic architecture as a conceptual framework through which historical imagery and present-day experience collide. The work proposes a visual analogy between an ancient myth of human overreach and a contemporary reality in which monumental promises coexist with fracture, precariousness, and uncertainty.
