Stormy Shores, Quiet Within
By Meg · US
This piece is a visual representation of my experience with depression. I wanted to capture the contradiction of being surrounded by beauty while feeling completely disconnected from it. The woman sits alone at the edge of the ocean, surrounded by sunlight, waves, birds, and a beautiful sunset, while darker and more fragmented versions of herself emerge behind her. The contrast represents the difference between the world as it exists around me and the way it can feel internally when depression takes over. The black, chaotic imagery represents the thoughts and emotions that can become impossible to separate from everything else. I wanted the image to show that depression isn't always an absence of beauty. Sometimes the hardest part is being able to see the beauty and still being unable to feel it.
