Traces of Decay
By Pegah Naseri · IR
In my collage practice, combining fragments is not simply a way of constructing an image; it is a human process of creating meaning from the scattered pieces of the world. Torn layers, worn surfaces, and elements of architecture and nature come together to create spaces between order and collapse. Through cutting, shifting, removing, and rebuilding, I construct images through a process shaped by my own decisions, experiences, and intuition. Each layer carries the trace of a choice, while every rupture suggests change, loss, or transformation. Destruction becomes part of creation, and the final image is not a predetermined reality, but the result of an ongoing dialogue between hand, material, memory, and intuition. At a time when technology and artificial intelligence are increasingly involved in the production of images, my work reflects on the value of human experience and authorship. For me, making art is not simply about producing an image; it is about experiencing, choosing, making mistakes, changing, and rebuilding. My collages search for this human trace within layers of architecture, nature, and material—the trace that remains through the process of making and reveals how a person can transform fragmented elements into a personal and meaningful world.
