When everyone was around
By Sara Khakifirooz · IR
My painting is about memories and the feelings attached to them. I remember the table full of everything, when everyone was around—happy, sad, drinking, laughing, dancing, smoking, and talking about everything. Every time I remember something, I draw and paint it. But I don’t just remember. I feel it. I feel the emotions, the smells, the tastes, the atmosphere, and all the sensations connected to those moments. Painting is my way of recording my reaction to these memories. This is also where I think about AI. AI can record information. It can recognize images, words, faces, and even identify emotions. But AI does not have the ability to record a feeling itself, because it does not experience the feeling. A memory for AI can be information. For me, a memory is an experience. My paintings are an attempt to record something that cannot simply be stored as data: the feeling of remembering.
