Time, purr, purr
By MIU · CZ
This single-channel video essay, titled Time, purr, purr, was created in 2025 as a means of exploring human and machine relationships, world-building, 3D scanning, collage, the concept of “third places,” and the poetic practice of Art of noticing to slowing down and intentionally paying attention to small, everyday details. It seeks to examine how machines and living organisms experience different biological times and perspectives. The essay reflects on what it means to be human in the face of the computational revolution and on how our awareness of time and its finitude transforms the way we experience the present and the ephemeral. The video unfolds in a post-algorithmic world in which human-made technologies are no longer merely external elements but have become embedded in our world. We encounter a dialogue between a living organism and its fears and doubts as it struggles to come to terms with the seemingly immortal nature of metal machines. What does it mean to live forever and to question the finite lifespan of one’s own body? Through a conversation rich in vivid imagery and imbued with a tone of reconciliation and admiration, the work raises questions about the significance of experiencing something only once: a fragile, everyday moment when light reflects on water, a perfect sunset, or the geometry of leaves moving in the wind. It invites us to embrace transience and uniqueness through the art of noticing, while remaining aware that certain moments can never be repeated. The sound design was created by Nana Ioseliani, who deliberately breathed the same sense of life into both non-human beings and the constructed organic world of this video essay.
