EXILIUM DEI
By Laura Moscatelli · IT
ARTWORK DESCRIPTION EXILIUM DEI The Exile of God EXILIUM DEI envisions a possible future in which technology has entered deeply into human existence, transforming the body and expanding its possibilities. Yet, even in a profoundly transformed world, something remains within the human being that technology cannot replace: the need for meaning, the desire for God, and the search for His presence. The Eucharist thus becomes the centre of the work: Christ present in the world and in history, even in the future we do not yet know. His presence introduces a dimension that goes beyond the visible without denying it: it is within matter that the human being encounters Christ, and it is through this presence that one opens to the mystery of God. In the child who turns towards the Eucharist, the desire to receive Christ also becomes a longing for the divine: from the visible to the invisible, from matter to that which transcends it. EXILIUM DEI — The Exile of God — embodies this tension. God is present within the human being, yet the human condition still holds this presence within the limits of matter. Exile thus becomes the image of a distance that calls to be crossed: to live on earth while, at the same time, preserving a longing for the eternal. In the Eucharist, this distance finds a place of encounter between the human and the divine, matter and transcendence, presence and mystery. EXILIUM DEI thus recognises what remains human even at the heart of technological transformation: the search for meaning, the desire for the presence of Christ, and that spiritual dimension which leads the human being beyond the limits of what is visible and beyond the self.
