Who Speaks for Me?
By Hong Chen · AT
Who Speaks for Me? explores how algorithms claim authority over human emotion. Using live heart-rate data, the installation produces machine-attributed emotional states that rewrite the participant’s live face in real time. The system translates physiological variation through predefined computational rules into visible judgments, rather than claiming to reveal a participant’s “true” emotion. By confronting subjective feeling with computational interpretation, the work asks how machine judgments become credible, enter self-understanding, and begin to influence how people interpret themselves.
