the human hand ,the artificial imagination
By maha · DZ
the human hand ,the artifitial imagination is a hand-drawn artwork brought into dialogue with artificial intelligence, exploring the boundless possibilities of human imagination and technology. The central character is inspired by Aashbat Lakhḍar, a figure from Algerian folklore. Her name evokes the lush greenery of the hills, reflecting her connection with nature, imagination, and quiet moments of beauty. She has long, silky hair that she enjoys combing beside a well. I wanted to reimagine this character in a world where folklore meets contemporary technology. The well represents the depth and seemingly limitless potential of artificial intelligence, like a hidden treasure waiting to be discovered. The glowing butterfly emerging from it represents just one small part of that potential: the ability to transform a human-made drawing into something that appears real. However, I deliberately chose not to transform the entire image. The original drawing remains visible around the realistic scene, creating a meeting point between illustration and reality. This contrast is essential to the work. It allows the viewer to feel that the drawing is alive and in motion, as though imagination is gradually crossing the boundary into another world. For me, the artwork is not about replacing human creativity with artificial intelligence. It is about exploring what can happen when technology becomes a tool for extending a person's imagination while the original idea and artistic decisions remain human.
