The Imprint of Life
By Hanadi Alkfery · AE
The Imprint of Life, 2026. Mixed media on canvas, 80 × 60 cm. In The Imprint of Life, the self does not appear as a single, complete image, but as layers of faces, fragments, and traces. Memory is not a fixed archive that restores events exactly as they were; it is a force that continually reshapes us. At a time when machines can generate images, I search for what an image alone cannot contain: the imprint of a life actually lived. Human meaning arises from memory, vulnerability, and relationships—from what we receive from others and what we leave within them. The hand represents the passage of experience from the inner world into the outer one, as memory becomes action, creation, and an imprint offered to the world. The printed marks, fractures, and unfinished spaces are not imperfections, but a record of touch, pressure, and time. We do not remain as we began; we become the accumulation of what has passed through us and what we have given.
