Can You Make Water?
By Salvador D·AI · ES
A child living in a drought-stricken environment encounters artificial intelligence and asks it for something extraordinarily simple: water. The machine can instantly create what appears to be an impossible paradise — waterfalls, vegetation, moisture and abundance. It can show her places she may never have seen, explain how water moves through the world, and generate an endless vision of what she needs. But the container in front of her remains empty. Can You Make Water? explores the contradiction between technological abundance and physical scarcity. Humanity is building systems capable of generating knowledge, images and entire imaginary worlds at extraordinary speed, while millions of people still live without reliable access to basic necessities. The work does not ask whether artificial intelligence is powerful. Its power is already visible. It asks a more human question: what does that power mean to someone whose most urgent problem cannot be solved by an image? The water is deliberately almost within reach. It appears capable of falling from the digital world into the physical one, yet the distance between representation and reality remains. AI can create the waterfall. The child still needs water.
