model collapse
By Simon Hundsbichler · AT
"model collapse" is a study on the feedback effect in recursive AI systems. Displayed as a sequence of (compression) artifacts – each an artificial reconstruction of the last – they simulate a timelapse of recursion, where standardisation, hallucination and error accumulate in a sculptural frame-by-frame installation. The reconstruction process follows a recursive loop: 3D-printing (UV-resin), photographing the 3D-print, AI-generating a 360°-video from that image, photoscanning the generative Video-Frames (Photogrammetry) to reconstruct the next 3D-Model to be printed again. The resulting sequence is presented in a museum-like setting on a vitrine as well as animated by flipping through the pages of a booklet, alongside visual and textual references.
