The Broken Compass
By Reiji Ikekita · JP
At the boundary between a dark machine city and a luminous natural world, a figure holds a broken red compass. The two landscapes offer countless possible directions, but the instrument can no longer pretend that there is one neutral route. The work asks what remains uniquely human when AI can generate images, choices, and futures at extraordinary speed. Its answer is responsibility: a machine may propose the map, but a person must decide where to go, what to value, and which consequences to accept. The fracture is therefore not simply damage. It is the moment when automated certainty fails and human judgment begins.
