A Key Without a Key

A Key Without a Key begins with a first London address and the bodily memory of carrying keys after physical access has been replaced by phones, codes, facial recognition and apps. AI-generated visual propositions were used as provisional tests, then rejected when their apparent completeness began to dictate the work. I retained only structural questions—front and reverse, inscription fields, authority and portability—while returning the address to a hand-led process of printing, cutting, recombination, failure and touch. A borrowed key-sound study, edited from documented CC0 recordings and composed silence, makes the absent physical credential audible without claiming it as my field recording. The work asks what remains human when an image can arrive before the material decision that gives it meaning.
