Human alter
By Agata Wala · PL
Personal Computer as an altar - interactive sculpture. Inspired by Donna Haraway’s statement “We have never been human”, the project questions whether we have ever been separate from the tools, technologies, images, and systems through which we understand ourselves. The viewer is invited to place their face inside of the object, becoming both the subject being observed and the observer. Combining a technological relic with imagery inspired by religious ceiling paintings, the work explores humanity’s relationship with something greater than humanity itself. Whether divine or technological. Human experiences become data: material that can be collected, processed and reproduced. As AI reshapes the way art is created, I am interested in shifting attention from who or what creates an artwork to the person experiencing it. For me, the meaning lies in the viewer. The work is not a fixed image with a message attached but an experience that emerges between the object and the person who enters it. The sculpture is only complete with the viewer. What matters is no longer who or what created the artwork but how and who experiences it.
