Fear
By Natallia Beliayeva · PL
Fear is part of my series Anatomy of Fear. The painting explores fear not as a specific event, but as a state that surrounds a person and gradually changes the way reality is perceived. The dark, fluid forms and multiple enlarged eyes create a presence that feels both external and internal — something that watches, grows and occupies more and more space. The figure remains still, caught between vulnerability and the attempt to stay in control. I am interested in giving visual form to emotions that are difficult to explain rationally. Fear is deeply physical and deeply personal: it lives in the body, in memory and in the imagination. For Human After All, this work reflects on something that cannot be reduced to the production of an image: lived experience. A machine may reproduce visual signs of fear, but vulnerability, uncertainty, memory and the bodily experience of fear belong to human life. Painting allows me to transform that internal experience through gesture, hesitation, intuition and the physical trace of the hand. For me, this is where the human presence in art begins.
