Angel
By Aslak Warming · DK
Hundreds of marks from fingers and hands stretch across large, colorful canvases. Loose, sketchy strokes of graphite, charcoal and oil pastel overlap and intertwine, uncovering bodies within the abstraction. Or rather, drafts of bodies: provisional figures hovering in and out of the pictorial plane. The paintings emerge from an ongoing dialogue between manual mark-making and AI-generated imagery. Images of bodies, gestures and intimate encounters are produced through processes of prompting, iteration and transformation, then translated back into the physical language of painting and drawing. Rather than treating AI as a tool for producing definitive images, the work uses it to explore uncertainty: how bodies are imagined, categorized and reconstructed, and how easily an image can shift between recognisable and ambiguous forms.
