TERMINAL DREAM
By Orlando Costi · IT
Terminal Dream explores the final three minutes of a dying patient administered an irreversible palliative euthanasia protocol through Sweet Dreams VR—a technology designed to immerse terminal patients in breathtaking, serene landscapes so they may slip away in peaceful happiness. Yet, beneath the engineered paradise, human consciousness refuses to be erased. As the protagonist journeys through these magnificent vistas, the simulation is inevitably reshaped by the bittersweet remnants of his real life and unfulfilled promises: a lonely house in the desert embodying his wife’s dream of a new beginning, a submerged Eiffel Tower holding an unkept promise to his daughter, and a skeletal forest where time definitively runs out. Concluding with the chilling contrast of a retro-corporate infomercial, the film explores the fragile boundary between synthetic solace and human truth, asserting that even in an artificial heaven, what makes us human is the weight of the love, memories, and regrets we leave behind.
