The Imperfect Original
By MUTLU · TR
An elderly father holds onto a stained childhood drawing while setting aside a flawless reconstruction of the same scene. Both images contain the same house, the same family and the same moment, yet they do not carry the same value. The reconstructed image may be more realistic, detailed and technically perfect, but the imperfect drawing contains something that cannot be reconstructed: the physical trace of a child who once sat down, picked up those crayons and drew his family as he saw them. The stains, uneven lines and childish proportions are not defects to be corrected. They are evidence that the moment was lived. The work explores the difference between reproducing an image and preserving a memory. Technology can recreate what something looked like. It cannot recreate what it meant to the person who was there.
