Silenced
By Olga Mikhailova-Yarovaya · RU
Silenced explores the quiet forms of violence that become normalized when women are expected to endure, remain silent, and look away. The figure is almost completely concealed. Her eyes are closed, her mouth is covered, and the fabric erases the boundaries of her body. She is present, but denied visibility; alive, but deprived of voice. The blue-violet hands suggest emotional numbness, coldness, and the traces left by prolonged suppression. The gesture over the mouth can be read both as an external prohibition and as something internalized — the moment when silence is no longer imposed only from outside, but becomes a learned survival strategy. The work is not about silence as peace. It is about silence as adaptation: the habit of not seeing, not speaking, not resisting, because speaking may carry a cost. Silenced asks what happens when endurance is praised for so long that it begins to resemble disappearance. The work was created entirely without generative AI, using original photography, practical makeup and styling, directed performance, and manual post-production.
