Mirror (Made of Us)
By Renato Prado Da Cruz · BR
A person looks into a phone screen, expecting to see themselves. The reflection that looks back is assembled from thousands of tiny faces of strangers. Every fluent answer a machine gives is built from the words, images and gestures of countless people who were never asked and are never named. The work asks who we are talking to when we talk to an AI, and whether, in that glow, we are only meeting ourselves multiplied. The machine is a mirror; the mirror is made of us.
