Seen Without Being Watched
By ReAtrix · AT
Seen Without Being Watched explores the paradox of social anxiety in the age of artificial intelligence. Surrounded by anonymous figures and oversized, watchful eyes, a solitary person turns toward an eyeless artificial presence. The human gaze has become associated with judgment, exposure and withdrawal. The absence of that gaze creates a different kind of space: one that may feel safer, less demanding and easier to enter. Yet this apparent safety contains a contradiction. By opening up to something that does not seem to judge, the person may reveal more than they would to another human being. Protection and vulnerability begin to overlap; distance becomes intimacy, and refuge may also become dependence. The work does not present artificial intelligence as either a solution or a threat. Instead, it examines the ambiguous relationship between being seen, being judged and choosing where to become visible. The central question remains unresolved: What happens when the place in which we feel least watched becomes the place that knows us most deeply?
