Gallery Entry
A Brilliant Idea
By Peter Schmidt · HU
The gallery director had always found the little robot helpful. One day, he gave it a more ambitious task: rethink the collection to attract as many visitors as possible. The robot arrived at a brilliant solution: black squares. Elegant. Universal. Endlessly defensible. It could explain, in impeccable detail, why each one deserved its place on the wall. Now the gallery is silent. The robot carefully straightens another gilded frame. Through the doorway, more black squares await admiration. At our feet lies the former collection: faces, tenderness, landscapes, the untidy evidence of people having lived. Every decision can be explained. What mattered has been left on the floor.
