The Unnecessary Stitch
By Alex Christou · GB
A split bowl stands before rows of intact copies. Two buttons and a short thread hold the gesture of repair without making the vessel whole. The work takes its direction from my reading of the absurd through Albert Camus: an action can be knowingly futile and still be chosen. The stitch does not promise success. It makes the decision to continue visible. The bowl is a setting for that contradiction, rather than the subject of a practical repair. This is an image and an accompanying statement developed from my interpretation; no handmade ceramic or physical installation is claimed.
