Still Life: An AI Band

For my graduation project I gave myself the challenge to work on an AI music project – something which I’m very sceptical of. The result is the band “Still Life”. I invented different characters, gave them personalities and backstories and based on these I created AI agents for each band member. The characters lived in a groupchat where they would collaborate on rough song ideas. They pulled random inspiration from a pool of content I curated / made and reinterpreted these fragments through their own perspectives. Their ideas became the basis for the EP „Enter The Lotus Club“. 5 tracks written by Still Life and produced by Jeroen Wijne, Benedikt Keller and Daniel Kochseder. The project asks how a virtual band can develop an aesthetic and cultural position in an era defined by referencing and remixing, using AI as its primary production tool. A tool which at its core is also just a recombination machine.
