NIGHT
By Laurence Fuller · US
Night is a cinematic poem spoken through a dramatic persona caught in ambition, self-invention and the desire for power. The speaker's confidence keeps slipping into menace, then into the possibility of remorse. Original poetry and performance give this character a voice; AI-aided visuals and music extend the atmosphere around it. The human contribution is the writing and the performed interpretation ~ the contradictions held within a voice that cannot be reduced to the image accompanying it. The work asks what survives beneath a carefully constructed public face, and whether the person speaking can change before the performance becomes their identity.
