Four Boxes
By Maddie Brooks · US
Four Boxes is a short essay built on the four declarations every entrant must tick at the bottom of this submission form: I own the work; I am the author, and the free creative choices are mine, not solely an AI's; I accept the terms; nothing in it is unlawful. Taking them one at a time, it asks what ownership, authorship and meaning still are when a machine can generate almost anything. It argues that the human contribution is no longer the making but the choosing, refusing and answering for it: the signature as liability, not flourish. It was made with AI assistance and says so openly, because the question of what I am signing is the subject of the piece.
