Qompi
By Julio Hernandez · PE
A piece recently selected to represent Perú in the Ras Al Khaimah Art Festival 2027, taking place in January at Al Jazeera Al Hamra Heritage Village. “Qompi” is inspired by an Andean garment; as a result of the combination of three hand-made pieces made with my signature technique of fluorescent markers, which were then individually disassembled and then put back together into a single composition, creating a kind of digital knitted textile. This piece challenges not only AI and its accelerated and incorrect interpretation of our culture, but also constitutes an act of resistance to the displacement and physical media vanishing. My most experimental work so far, exploring cultural heritage and digital sovereignty. "Qompi arose in a dystopian future where AI had taken over; she grabbed the remaining archives of human expression to build herself from scratch as a rebellious entity fighting ancestral exile."
