Signal without skin
By Ahmed Mahmoud Abdel Moaty Abo Aziz · EG
A neural network is a mathematical structure. It takes an input, passes it through layers of weighted connections, and produces an output, tried to mimic the human neruons networks and mechanisms. It can be trained to recognise a face, complete a sentence, or reproduce the shape of two hands holding each other. What it cannot do is feel the pressure of the grip it just reproduced. This image shows that limit. Two human hands, one old and one young, hold each other in the dark. The skin is warm. The knuckles are pressed. The grip is real. In the glass beside them, the same hands appear again, rendered as a network of nodes and connections — the visual language of the very systems we build. The reflection has the same shape. It has no temperature. No pulse. No reason to hold on. The machine can copy every gesture. It cannot know why the gesture was made. It cannot know what it costs to grip something that might let go. It can only repeat the shape of something it will never feel.
