The Soft Collapse of Time is a speculative short story set in a near future where accelerated aging has become a literal weapon of instability. Sealed borders and time-shielding technology divide those spared from those left to age years within days. Tatiana, safely removed in Japan, watches her family in Zimbabwe disintegrate from a distance she can’t close, while the man she loves has gone silent an ocean away. Desperate for connection before the world goes fully cold, she turns to an experimental technology promising to bridge any distance, with consequences neither of them anticipated.
