A Memory It Never Had
By Arch.Lunghi · IT
A Memory It Never Had begins from a real childhood memory: a warm spring afternoon in a kindergarten garden in Padua, Italy. Five-year-old classmates sit in a circle on yellow benches, eating crispbread, singing and waiting happily for their parents. The work explores how generative AI can help give visual form to memories that survive only in fragments. Rather than documenting the past faithfully, AI fills the gaps left by time, reconstructing a scene that feels emotionally true yet remains partly uncertain. Yellow acts as a mnemonic anchor, while faces, distant adults and peripheral details become softer and less reliable. The work reflects on how AI can support remembrance without ever having experienced the memory itself.
