Self portraits as the Human in the Loop

This work begins with a single contemporary portrait and subjects it to the logic of serial mechanical reproduction. Using AI, an image is transformed into a triptych of flat, high-contrast, silkscreen-style variations that deliberately echo the visual language of Warhol’s Marilyn series. Each portrait in the triptych is then generated under an additional constraint that deliberately foregrounds emotional legibility. The AI performs the Warholian labour of serial colour shifts and flattening. The human supplies the meaning by deciding, in reviewing and evaluating every prompt, what the image is permitted to portray.
