THE DRAGON VEIN TRICHOME CHRONOMETER imagines a scientific instrument designed to observe a biological process that cannot truly be contained by a clock. At its centre, a magnified resin gland becomes the specimen around which an elaborate mechanical system is constructed. The surrounding scale moves through initiation, swelling, peak resin, maturation and senescence, translating a living botanical cycle into the visual language of precision instruments and horology. The work explores a tension that runs throughout my practice: humanity’s desire to measure, classify and control living systems, versus the complexity of life itself. Cannabis is presented here not as commercial imagery or cultural stereotype, but as botanical material worthy of the same close observation historically reserved for rare scientific specimens. The imagined object deliberately occupies an uncertain space between laboratory instrument, museum artifact and impossible machine.
