Do I need a degree to start working at Conveneo?
There are some jobs that require a relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree – for jobs such as accounting or assisting financial advisors. However, if you possess the experience that is needed for a certain job, such as UX design or programming, we can talk about it even though you might not go to college. For this, we might require you to show us a portfolio of your work so far.
I’m still a student and have not earned my degree yet.
Currently, we have several students that earn money next to their studies. Some work in areas where less experience is needed, such as customer support ticket handling. Others are lucky when a professional client, such as a financial advisor, needs assistance. These are great opportunities for people that want to gain relevant experience that fits their studies. Imagine it as a paid, remote internship. However, such opportunities cannot be guaranteed and depend on the client and your motivation.
Remember that the more professional a job is, the more you are responsible for handling customer data responsibly. In some cases, if you are not an EU citizen, you cannot, for example, work as an assistant for a German tax advisor.
What if I don’t have the right experience for a job?
If you have a degree or relevant certificates but don’t have the right previous experience, don’t worry. Usually, before getting on to a job for a client, you go through a paid training programme to get you ready. Thus, already having experience in the field is not a ‘must’ but great plus and can lead to higher entrance positions.
How does the hiring process look like?
You can apply for a job from our catalogue here:
If you do not find anything suitable, you can still complete an application and send us your CV, and we will get back to you once a client needs your skills. This usually happens very quickly, as we are currently experiencing a lot of growth.
Once we see a fit between each other, we will invite you to a personal (remote) interview and settle any questions. If we see that you are motivated and serious about working with us, you will be automatically allocated to a suitable project (or of your preference if there are several alternatives). We then provide you with further instructions, such as which VPN to use for a client, which log-in portal to use and important documents, such as code of conduct and how to handle the client’s data. Sometimes, a client wants you to go through a training programme first, where you will learn everything you need.
Can you help me to get where I want to go?
Some destinations, such as the United States, require you to have a visa to go there. We cannot help you directly with such organisational tasks as you are responsible for having all the required documents and certificates for your travels. However, within our company, you can ask other employees for their experience and if they have some advice for you.
How long does a client project take – How long can I travel before there is no work left to do?
Of our current clients, the average duration of needing one of our teams is: JEROME ESTIMATE TIME (DAYS)
We see that it would be very problematic for you to lose your work if a client aborts working with us. We sign contracts with clients for specific durations to prevent you from losing your work and money while travelling. This means that we will tell you ahead if you plan a longer work and travel trip than we are contracted with a client.
Example 1: You plan to work and travel for six months – the client is only contracted to us for four months. In this case, we advise you to stay within the four months window in which we can guarantee work.
Example 2: You plan to work and travel for four months, and the client contracted us for exactly four months. Later, while you are planning to finish your work and travel adventure, we gathered many more clients in need of your skills (and the experience you gained the past 4 months). We will inform you about another opportunity to extend your job with another client so you can remain on your adventure for longer.
In any case, communication is critical – in both ways. Please inform us about how long you want to travel. We will allocate you to the most suitable project for your chosen duration.
Where will I pay taxes?
This depends on your national laws. Usually, you will pay taxes in the country where you live – are a resident of. For example, you are a resident of Belgium, are working and travelling in Thailand for two months and work for a French company client: You would pay taxes in Belgium.
Note that many variables will ultimately determine your taxes to pay, such as the 183-day rule, which “is a rule used by most countries to determine if someone should be considered a resident for tax purposes” (Investopedia, 2021).
However, since taxes are no fun and getting into problems with tax authorities is even less fun, we strongly advise you to consult a tax advisor and not take our statement or someone’s opinion in an online forum for granted. Please do your due diligence and prepare your journey accordingly.
If you work from home, these matters are more straightforward, as you will pay taxes where you reside.
Where do I need to be health insured?
Like the question about taxes, this depends on the laws of the country you reside in, as well as the laws of the country you want to travel to while being in remote work. Please contact your health insurance provider (and other relevant insurances), explain your situation, e.g., where you want to go and for how long, and follow their advice.
What currency will I get paid in?
We will pay you in the currency of the country of which you are an official resident of.
