In this blog, we pointed out some of the advantages and disadvantages of remote work. Now let us tell you how we work and harness the benefits of remote work, and try to mitigate the drawbacks.

With pioneers in the field, such GitLab, that have extensive documentation on designing a remote organisation, we’ll show you our take on this practice. Culture is the glue that bounds all employees together to achieve a common goal. The challenge is the physical restrictions of remote work that take away the close social elements and interactions we humans are used to. In addition to less overall social interaction, An analysis by Microsoft on anonymised Teams usage data revealed that meeting numbers are overall high, but the meetings are getting shorter and more ad-hoc. Sessions under 15 minutes now make up about 60% of all meetings (Microsoft, 2022).

Microsoft assumes employees found alternatives to casual, informal “hallway” conversations.
Furthermore, work is increasingly becoming asynchronous, meaning that not all team members are online or interact simultaneously because of many different time zones. This asynchronous communication is accompanied by a doubling of recorded meetings, documentation and guides for people to catch up at another time, similar to GitLabs practices. Because of this asynchronous nature, and you possibly working with teams from different time zones, we emphasise the importance of mindful usage of synchronised meeting times.

According to Microsoft (2022), for remote work to be sustainable over the long run, “always on” policies should be avoided. Because of this, and since we want you to make the most of your travel time (or remote working from home), you have significant freedom in choosing the time zone to work in that suits your daily schedule. Want to sleep in till 2 pm and work in the afternoon? No problem, we are flexible; for example, our customer service clients need help in different time zones. You can inform us when you want to change your working time. We hope this enables you to work when you are most productive, benefiting everyone.

To see and understand how much progress you are making on a client’s goals, we have a dashboard system – a little gamification to add more engaging elements to your tasks. This helps our teams see how coherently they are working as a whole.

Now comes what makes working for us unique: Because of our various partnerships with companies in the legal, insurance and service sectors, we will soon be able to offer reward bonuses to employees that deliver outstanding work. These rewards will include various benefits that will make your work and travel adventures more satisfying – discounts on insurance, hotel bookings, car rental service and much more!

The more and the better our employees execute their tasks, we can add more bonus programmes to our ecosystem.

But there is more: Of course, such bonuses are the tangible rewards that await you. On the other hand, you will collect ‘experience points’ that will help you to climb up the ranks inside of Conveneo. Want to manage your team? No problem; if we see you putting in the effort, that is possible (And looks good on your CV). Please note that a promotion can not only be justified by gaining ‘experience points’ but is dependent on other factors such as feedback from your team members. As inspired by GitLab our current remote working manifesto is:

We hire from all over the world to access the largest possible talent pool. Irrespective of your gender or nationality, we hire you if you have the skills we need and are a reliable person.

We prioritise asynchronous communication and record as much knowledge as possible to learn and grow from the experience. These records and documents are open for everyone to edit and contribute to.

Everyone can work from or in the time zone as one prefers.

The results of your work are rewarded with tangible benefits and the perspective to be promoted.

We encourage employees to help each other on non-work related matters. Especially when someone wants to move to a country one of our employees already works in, we appreciate sharing information and helping each other to reach their destination safely and happily.

Of course, we are just getting started finding our cultural identity and best practices. So, join us and contribute to it!
